Workshops on Maintaining Respectful Workplaces

CHRC has engaged professional HR experts to train a select group of sector trainers from different disciplines to develop and deliver workshops on Maintaining Respectful Workplaces. Since the trainers come from different parts of the country and the sector, they bring specific expertise and knowledge to these offerings.

If you are interested in hosting one of these workshops please request to host a workshop. The workshops will be 3.5 to 4 hours in length and beneficial to all audiences, whether they be employers, workers, artists or a mixed group of 8 – 24 participants. Gathering sister organisations or members or clients for a workshop is strongly encouraged.

Numerous Respectful Workplaces in the Arts (RWA) workshops on the way!

Canadian Heritage and CHRC are offering Respectful Workplaces in the Arts workshops to encourage better workplace practices and behaviours. The workshops cover information on Provincial and Territorial legislation, definitions of harassment and bullying as well as case-studies to navigate the complexities of problematic situations. These workshops are not legal nor therapy clinics, they are conversations facilitated by experienced cultural sector leaders. Resources are discussed to help individuals and organizations towards contributing to better work environments and/or to develop their own policies/codes of conduct.

We are pleased to announce that we will continue to offer Respectful Workplaces in the Arts (RWA) workshops into 2022!

Over the next few weeks, CHRC is hosting open-registration workshops by time zone. The workshops are 4-hours in length (includes a 30-minute lunch break and other shorter breaks).

The workshops are intended for non-profit organizations and cultural workers in any of the cultural disciplines or industries: managers, administrators, technical personnel, Board members, volunteers and, obviously, artists.

Sign up via Eventbrite by clicking on the links below. Organizations and individuals may reserve up to 8 “spots” in the workshop. PARTICIPATION IS FREE however, if you reserve, we kindly request that you mark your calendar and attend. Workshops are limited to a total of 90 participants. The CHRC-led workshop calendar appears below.

Organizations that can bring together anywhere between 8 and 90 participants are invited to request to host a workshop.

Renewed thanks to Canadian Heritage for the funding support!

Legislative Webcasts

These informative webcasts have been created to assist cultural organizations with implementing and sustaining compliance with harassment legislation by province and territory. Topics covered in the webcasts include bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, receiving a complaint/awareness of an incident, and best practices for developing policies to minimize harassment risks in the workplace. Topics also include strategies for addressing harassment, e.g., complaint resolution process or investigation process. The webcasts feature scenarios to help illustrate how policies and procedures can mitigate risk.

Quick Reference Guides

Quick Reference Guides are now available to complement, but not replace, the legislative webcasts which detail harassment legislation compliance by province and territory. They provide seven key compliance strategies and practical considerations to assist employers (including Boards of Directors and arts organizations) to meet their obligations and address workplace harassment issues as they arise.
